Signal is the fourth extended play (EP) by South Korean girl group Twice. The EP, along with its title track of the same name were distributed, released digitally and physically by JYP Entertainment and KT Music on May 15, 2017.

Background and release

It was hinted on V Live back in April with Park Jin Young and the maknae line (Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu) that they will collaborate together for the next album. Park Jin Young was asking the viewers to give him comments and ideas about about producing Twice's next titled song.

On April 18, the agency confirmed Twice's May comeback with no exact date of release. Nine days later, it was reported that the group finished filming the music video for the title track, which was produced by Park Jin-young.

The first music video teaser of "Signal" was released on May 13. The album, along with the music video for the lead single, was officially released on the 15th at 18:00 KST. It was also released as a digital download on various music sites.

Concept

Twice's concept for this album is superpowers/abilities. From the photo teasers, each member holds their own superpower/abilities:

Promotion

Jihyo, who took break from activities due to knee injury, re-joined the group for promotions.

On May 4, Twice will be recording an episode on Knowing Bros, the group's first variety show for the EP.

It was scheduled on May 1 that Twice will have their showcase for the album on May 15th. It was also announced that they will have 2 encore Twiceland concerts on June 17 to 18.

Unlike during their last comeback, Twice will be promoting actively on variety shows. They filmed their first variety show on I Can See Your Voice. On May 3, 4 and 9, Twice recorded an episode of Weekly IdolKnowing Bros and Top 3 Chef King, respectively.

Music Shows

To celebrate their multiple wins on music shows, Twice wore their "Like Ooh-Ahh" outfits on their fan-sign on June 8, 2017.

Commercial performance

Since release with their new track “Signal,” Twice achieved an all-kill by topping real-time charts on major music sites Melon, Genie, Mnet, Naver, Bugs, Soribada, and more.

Signal” also ranked No. 1 on the iTunes album charts in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau, Cayman Islands, Brunei, and Panama. It also placed third in Sweden, fourth in Brazil and Mexico, 15th in Canada, and 17th in the United States. (figures based on 16th May only)
